carl strang, jr.
Carl Strang, Jr., an active local businessman and past mayor of the City of Winter Haven, commissioned Gene Leedy to build a new home for his growing family in the last 1960’s. This 4,000+ square foot home was built in 1970 on ten acres on the shores of Lake Otis. It exhibits many of Leedy’s trademark and innovative building techniques, including pre-stressed concrete double-T beams, many cantilevered balconies, and a large children’s wing with interior courtyard. The Strang family lived in this house until 2004. (Although this home is not included in this driving tour because it is not visible from the public right-of-way, you can view photos of the Strang Residence on this website.)
